Italian Orienteering Sprint Cup

The 2023 national orienteering season ends with an intense weekend in Genoa: the first appointment yesterday afternoon in Bolzaneto, departure and arrival in Piazza Rissotto, with the last stage of the Coppa Italia Sprint on a fast but challenging, never banal, route of 3,700 meters, with a height difference of 100 meters, designed by Alessio Tenani.

In the men's Elite category, Riccardo Scalet (Park World Tour Italia) won, preceding Giacomo Zagonel (Polisportiva G. Masi) by 22'': Samuele Tait (Gronlait Orienteering Tea) took third place.

There were 502 athletes competing in the various categories representing around fifty companies: some from Spain, Turkey, Romania, Switzerland, China, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Denmark.

Among the women, the fastest was Maddalena De Biasi (Orientering Tarzo A.S.D) with 17' and 16'', who also won the general classification of the Italian Cup also taking advantage of the absence for work reasons of the leader Jessica Lucchetta: place d honor for the young Lombard Guenda Zaffanella (A.S.D. Orienteering Como), third place for Anna Pradel (U.S Primero A.S.D).

“It is never easy to organize an orienteering competition in an urban environment, also because we are a small group of people, albeit cohesive, but the outcome of the day is extremely positive - says Gian Luca Carbone, FISO national councilor and director of the event - We chose specifically a location, Bolzaneto, not used to large sporting events, also to make our discipline more and more known. We thank the Municipality of Genoa, the Liguria Region, all the sponsors and volunteers who allowed this beautiful day of sport to take place."

Coppa Italia Sprint and tomorrow, Sunday 22 October on the Praglia floors, are two events on the path that will see the Ligurian capital, with important positive regional consequences, the capital of international orienteering with a World Cup and World Championships in the next three years.

A.S.D. Amatori Orienteering Genoa is the cornerstone of the organizing committee of which the Italian Sports Center is also part.
