Mayor Silvia Salis reaffirmed the commitment to WOC2026

A meeting took place yesterday at Palazzo Tursi in Genoa with Mayor Silvia Salis,reaffirmed the City of Genoa's dedication to hosting and supporting the upcoming Orienteering World Championships. The meeting also saw the presence of Italian Orienteering Federal President Alfio Giomi and key municipal officials from the Tourism and Sport departments. Here down the press release:

• This morning at Palazzo Tursi-Albini in Genoa, Mayor Silvia Salis welcomed Federal President Alfio Giomi and Gianluca Carbone, Event Director for next year's World Championships. During the meeting, Mayor Salis confirmed and renewed the City Council's commitment to supporting the initiative.The meeting took place in an extremely cordial atmosphere, a result of the long-standing relationship between the President and the Mayor. Their extensive experience together within both F.I.D.A.L and CONI, where Silvia Salis—a former Olympic hammer thrower—also served as Vice President, contributed to the positive climate.This collaboration will immediately materialize with organizational support for the Pre-Worlds scheduled for October 4-5.Also present at the meeting were City Councilor for Sport, Lorenzo Garzarelli, and the directors responsible for the Sport and Tourism Departments, Sandra Torre, and Grand Events, Roberto Maragliano.
• Questa mattina a Genova a Palazzo Tursi-Albini, la Sindaca Silvia Salis ha ricevuto il Presidente Federale Alfio Giomi e Gianluca Carbone, Event Director dei Campionati del Mondo del prossimo anno, confermando e rinnovando l’impegno dell’Amministrazione Comunale a sostenere l’iniziativa. L’incontro si è svolto in un clima di estrema cordialità, frutto anche della conoscenza di lunga data tra il nostro Presidente e la Sindaca grazie alle molteplici esperienze vissute sia in seno alla F.I.D.A.L che al C.O.N.I., dove Silvia Salis – già atleta olimpionica nel Lancio del Martello – ha ricoperto anche la carica di Vicepresidente. La collaborazione si concretizzerà sin da subito con il sostegno organizzativo ai Pre-Woc del 4-5 Ottobre. Alla riunione erano presenti il Consigliere Comunale delegato allo Sport Lorenzo Garzarelli ed i dirigenti responsabili dei Dipartimenti Sport e Turismo Sandra Torre e Grandi Eventi Roberto Maragliano.
