From 27 May to 2 June, the 2024 Orienteering World Cup will arrive in Genoa, with the participation of 300 athletes from 29 different nations!
An unmissable event that will allow people to get to know a discipline that rediscovers and enhances the territory in an original way, bringing citizens of all ages and abilities closer to outdoor sports.
A philosophy perfectly in line with the objectives that the City of Genoa and the Liguria Region have set themselves with the nominations of European Capital of Sport 2024 and European Region of Sport 2025. The event was presented at Palazzo Tursi with representatives of the sports world and institutions.
Alessandra Bianchi, Councillor Sport Municipality of Genoa said "The Orienteering World Cup is a great promotional opportunity for the city in the year it is European Capital of Culture. All participants will be able to discover its beauty by challenging themselves along evocative routes, from east to west."
Simona Ferro, Sports Councillor for the Liguria Region, states, "Orienteering allows us to enhance our territory in an original way, bringing citizens of all ages and abilities closer to the sport. In fact, if it is true that the World Cup will feature the strongest athletes in this discipline, we must consider that an event of this kind will allow this discipline, with zero impact, to be increasingly popular in the open air".
IOF C.E.O. Henrik Eliasson was pleasantly surprised by the city of Genoa and what it offers. He sensed great hospitality and emphasised that the progress in preparation for the 2024 World Cup and the 2026 World Championships that has been and still is being made is really important. The IOF is very pleased with the work of the FISO, Genoa and the Liguria Region
