Rain and Pure Orienteering: The GOLD WRE / Italian Cup Rocks Liguria!
What a weekend! Not even the relentless rain could dampen the spirits of the orienteering community during the GOLD WRE / Italian Cup held on March 14-15.
The narrow alleys and technical terrains of Pietra Ligure and Albenga played host to an incredible turnout. We saw a massive international presence, with numerous National Teams battling it out for the World Ranking Event (WRE) points, proving that Liguria is truly the place to be for world-class orienteering right now.
At the same time, the Italian movement showed up! Hundreds of athletes kicked off the 2026 Italian Cup season, showing impressive speed and navigation skills despite the slippery conditions. It was a true test of character and a fantastic celebration of our sport.
Road to WOC 2026: No Time to Rest! ππ¨
These races were a crucial step in the "Road to WOC 2026." With the World Orienteering Championships in Genoa fast approaching this summer, every second on the map counts.
The action doesn't stop here! To keep the momentum going, we are heading East. Next weekend (March 21-22), the training continues with a series of training races. Itβs the perfect opportunity to fine-tune that technical flow and get used to the unique Ligurian terrain.
