GENOA: On 27 and 28 October the Commission of the I.O.F. will be in Genoa. (composed of the Secretary General and C.E.O. Tom Hollowell and the President of the Commission O.C. Aron Less) to evaluate the candidacy for the organization of the 2026 World Championships and a round of the World Cup in 2024 (when Genoa will be the European Capital of Sport).
The application had already been presented several months ago by FISO on input from the Amateur Orienteering Association (president Andrea Immovilli) and the C.U.S. Genoa (President Maurizio Cechini).
The working group will also be made up of the Federal President Sergio Anesi (who will meet the Ligurian companies on the evening of the 26th), Gianluca Carbone (Event Director), Alessio Tenani (Technical Area Coordinator) and Eleni Lutaj (Administrative Area Manager).
Dense agenda full of technical commitments with inspections of the competition areas and arenas, visits to the logistics areas (among which we point out the Palazzo della Borsa thanks to the kind collaboration of the Genoa Chamber of Commerce in the person of its Secretary General Maurizio Caviglia) and institutional commitments: there will be meetings with the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci and with the Councilor for Sport of the Liguria Region Simona Ferro; a dinner extended to authorities and a large representation of Ligurian members is also planned.
The President of the C.O.N.I. Regional Antonio Micillo has made its offices available for the holding of the meetings, where, among other things, representatives of the University of Genoa (Department of Political Science), of Marketing and Communication Agencies, of television productions and of the Convention will intervene Bureau (hotel accommodation).
The dates scheduled for the events are 31 May and 1 June 2024 and from 7 to 11 July 2026, when in addition to the athletes of the national teams, thousands of participants in the side competitions would also arrive in our area.
The official answer on the outcome of the candidacy will come after the next Council of the I.O.F. scheduled for mid-November.
