Italian Orienteering Team Relay Championships

At Piani di Praglia, in the municipality of Ceranesi in the province of Genoa, the Italian orienteering team relay championships took place on Sunday 22 October: the test for the male ELITE category was designed on a beautiful route of 5,900 meters in length with a height difference of 330 metres.

The Italian title goes to the Emilian team of Polisportiva G. Masi (Francesco Mariani, Alessio Tenani, Giacomo Zagonel) ahead of the Venetians of Park World Tour Italia S.S.D. (Alessandro Bedin, Sebastian Inderst, Riccardo Scalet): third place for A.S.D.G.S. Pavione (Fabiano Bettega, Aaron Gaio, Damiano Bettega).

In the women's ELITE category, 4920 meters in length and 260 meters in altitude, the fastest of all was the Trentino team from U.S. Primiero A.S.D.(Nicole Riz, Nicole Scalet, Anna Pradel) who preceded Park World Tour Italia S.S.D.(Annarita Scalzotto, Giulia Dissette, Noemi Inderst), third step of the podium for Polisportiva G.Masi (Caterina De Nardis, Margherita Buganè, Francesca De Nardis).

In the M20 category, the tricolor championship for the Venetians of Orienteering Tarzo A.S.D (Riccardo Granzotto, Simone De Gasperi, Lorenzo De Biasi) while among the girls, first place was A.S.D. Polisportiva Besanese (Chiara Magenes, Valentina, Cazzaniga, Silvia Di Stefano).

At the awards ceremony there was Carlo Rebora, sports councilor of the municipality of Ceranesi, as well as representatives of the FISO national council.

The relay races at Piani di Praglia were developed in 20 different categories, between men and women, with 152 teams, each of which was made up of three athletes.

The route has been part of the tradition of this sport for 40 years now, with its fascinating and at times still somewhat wild terrain.

“I am very satisfied with the participation, the technical result and the scenography of the two events, we were also lucky with the weather conditions. It was an important trial run for the events of the coming years - says Gianluca Carbone President of ASD Amatori Orienteering Genova and National FISO Councilor - to understand what needs to be improved and implemented, especially at a numerical level. It was the first time that we worked closely with other companies, Tuscan, Lombard, with other technicians: and this will be the common thread for the future. The unit that will take care of the World Cup and World Championships was born in Bolzaneto on Saturday, while in Piani di Praglia the unit that will mainly deal with collateral events which will still attract thousands of people".

The organizational committee, of which the pivot is ASD Amatori Orienteering Genova, also includes the CSI of Genoa, present both in Bolzaneto and at the Piani di Praglia with the coordinator of the sporting activity Gian Maria Baldi and with the president Enrico Carmagnani.

“We came to lend a hand,” says Enrico Carmagnani, because we are a “barrier committee”, we moved banners, gazebos, entering the heart of a great event with our friends from the Italian Sports Orientation Federation, with whom we also share the values educators of this discipline".
